Max Robinson was an eminent broadcast journalist of America and is best known for being the first African American news anchor in the history of United States. He was aware of the fatal disease which he was having, but tried his very best to keep it as a secret for others. Robinson died of AIDS on December 20, 1988, in the hospital of Howard University. He was in Howard to deliver a speech where he became seriously ill.

Tony Richardson was a British film director and producer who came to prominence after receiving two Academy Awards for his adventure comedy film, Tom Jones. He was bisexual, but never admitted it publically. However, this secret was eventually revealed when he accepted that he was suffering from AIDS. Sending a shock wave among his long trail of fans, Richardson died on November 14, 1991.

正確な誕生日は不明だが、3月17日前後に、父親の赴任地に向かう途中のシベリア鉄道の車内で生まれた。ヌレエフという名はアラビア語の姓「ヌリー（光の）」をロシア風に改姓したものである。これは彼の父親ハメットが共産主義に傾倒していった影響が大きいとされる。ちなみに、彼の親族は中央アジアの流れを汲むタタール系。3歳でバクシール共和国ウファに移住し、幼少時から舞踊に興味を示し、父親に内緒でレッスンに通うようになる。当時は民族舞踊的なものが主体だったが、近所の教師にバレエの手ほどきを少々受けた。
17歳で名門ワガノワバレエ学校に編入し、ようやく本格的なバレエを学ぶ。入学時、面接官から「あなたは歴史に残るバレエダンサーになるか、失敗するかどちらかでしょう。恐らく後者の可能性の方が大きいでしょうけれど…」と言われたという逸話がある。名教師プーシキンに師事した後、ソリストとしてキーロフ・バレエ（現マリインスキー・バレエ）に入団。ニジンスキーの再来とまで言われるようになる。反面、激しい性格と反抗的な態度から政府に警戒されるようになる。1961年に、海外公演の途中に亡命。1963年ごろから英国ロイヤル・バレエのゲストとして20近く年上のマーゴ・フォンテインとペアを組み、後に伝説のパートナー・シップとまで言われるようになる。1982年にオーストリア国籍を取得。80年代にはパリ・オペラ座芸術監督に就任、シルヴィ・ギエム、シャルル・ジュド、マニュエル・ルグリなどを見出した。また、レパートリーを一新して、ウィリアム・フォーサイスなど現代作品を積極的に採用、現在のオペラ座の隆盛の礎を築く。1993年、AIDSによる合併症のため54歳で死去。

For mainstream media, his flamboyant and regal lifestyle was a hot topic. He established several landmarks in the fields of television, concerts, endorsements, motion pictures and recordings. On February 4, 1987, he died from cardiac arrest which was brought on by the complications of AIDS. Liberace was 67 when he died.

However, ten years after his death, his wife disclosed in an autobiography that his death was the result of an infection of HIV. During his bypass surgery, his blood was contaminated during transfusion.

Arthur Ashe was an illustrious tennis player and is best known for being the first and only black player to ever win the singles title of Wimbledon, Australian Open and the U.S. Open. He was also the first black player to play for the United States Davis Cup team. In 1983, Ashe underwent a heart surgery, but lamentably contracted HIV during the blood transfusion. Eventually, he died on February 6, 1993, after going through a long phase of illness.
